Chapter 45

Unspoken Implications

Izuku crossed his arms over his chest, his face red and sweaty as he tried to tuck himself further into the back seat of the car. He had already tried to open the door but the child lock was on, tried the window but that lock was on too. His next attempt was to squeeze through the front seats, but his mother wouldn’t let him as she used her body to shove him back.

Izuku didn’t know what to do, every escape option was thwarted, especially when his father climbed into the car and began to drive away. Both of his parents were obviously mad, but he could only scent his mother’s plum. It was dark with a rank tinge to it that left Izuku wanting to vomit.

In fact, he couldn’t stop sweating as he watched building after building and car after car pass by far too quickly. The alpha’s fist slammed into the wheel several times, overwhelming the space with the cry of the horn. Their vehicular would slow then speed up again, Hisashi muttering profanities under his breath as he swerved around cars. It was terrifying. Izuku hadn’t ridden in a car in months, so the sudden acceleration and braking was overwhelming as his body would slam forward and then back back again into the seat. Each moment that passed left the omega feeling so small in comparison, his instincts whining as he kept glancing around in hopes that anything would seem familiar.

Izuku tried to blink his sudden blurry vision away, but the sun was too bright. It glared down into his side of the car as if to mock him, burning his exposed torso. He tried to swallow the uncertainty that was ensuring his mind, but his tongue only stuck to his teeth as each breath began to burn deep in his chest. His skin crawled as it seemed to melt into his muscles, each movement causing a jolt of pain to zip through his body and flare out through his limbs.

But, to his shock, his hands didn’t shake and his heart stayed steady as it thumped heavily in his chest. Izuku could inwardly feel something was wrong, like his heart was beating just a bit too slow. He had never felt anything like this. He looked up at his mother, confused as he tried to understand what was happening.

“Mom?-“ Izuku tried to speak. He knew his voice was too pitched to be normal, that it shook more than it ever had in his life as his throat cramped up.

“Not now!” Hasashi yelled before cursing at a car they passed.

“Izuku, why aren’t you buckled?!” Inko asked, frown deep and brows furrowed as she looked at him from around the front seat. Izuku blinked, not understanding at first what she meant. “Buckle yourself now!” She urged, her tone sharp as she tried to reach back into the area he was at.

Izuku shook his head. He couldn’t think very well with his parents' scents filling the small sedan. “Take me back.” He whispered. Tears filled his eyes as he stared into his mother’s eyes. There wasn’t any compassion, not like there had been once before.

“Hasashi, pull over.” Inko stated. She twisted in her seat with an irritated huff as she undid her seatbelt and opened her door before the car was fully stopped.

The alpha listened, though it wasn’t without a few profanities for having too. Inko got out and ripped the back door open. She was in Izuku’s space in an instant, hands already pulling the seatbelt out and attempting to wrap it around him. Izuku shook as he scooted away, terrified at the glare his mother gave him.

“Take me back.” Izuku said again, this time more urgent.

“Sit in your seat now!” Hasashi yelled, hand whipping around to grab Izuku by the arm.

The omega hissed as he ripped away from the faint touch, back hitting the other rear door. “Mom.” Izuku whispered. “Dad?”

Both ignored him as Hasashi got out of his own seat and yanked open the rear door causing Izuku to tumble back. The omega’s heart rate stalled, his muscles contracting on instinct as he tucked his head in and let himself fall full force into the motion. Izuku heard his father curse- stepping away so as to not get landed on- but it was enough for the omega to roll out of the car and tumble neck first into the road.

A car horn blared and tires squealed as Izuku pushed his body with the continued momentum. He ignored how his body screamed against every movement, ignored how the asphalt dug into his skin, ignored how the burning pain from his neck radiated up into his scalp, and ignored how both of his parents shouted at him.

Izuku only focused on getting his bare feet over himself and onto the ground again. It was completely instinctual how smoothly he was able to get upright with a sure footing, and it was a practiced motion for him to be able to rotate on his toes and twist out of Hasashi hands so easily.

Izuku ran, his legs carrying him into the road before his brain even caught up to what was happening. He didn’t even see the car coming from the opposite direction they had been driving. He didn’t have time to assess that there wasn’t enough time to dodge.

All he heard was his mother’s scream and the road smashing into his face.

Hitoshi blinked in the light of the setting sun, his alpha on high alert as he held his phone to his ear after it rang twice. His boyfriend’s voice came through in clipped sentences, the alpha’s eyes widening at the information.

Neither him nor Katsuki had cared what the judge ordered. Both of them moved once they heard the gravel crunch under spinning tires. They were going after Izuku, to at the very least make sure he was safe. Katsuki had chased after the car- though it sped off too quickly for him to keep up on foot- while Hitoshi ran up the stairs to gather their gear.

It took Hitoshi fifteen minutes to catch up to where the blonde was searching. The verbal fighting with Mitsuki and Masaru while he moved through the house had slowed him down far too much; leaving Katsuki alone in his attempt to track the vehicle. After Hitoshi passed the blonde his hero gear, it was apparent that the likelihood of tracking Izuku now was low, so splitting was their best option.

“You sure?” Hitoshi questioned into the receiver. He pivoted mid stride and began running across rooftops towards the hospital Katsuki had given him.

“I just got a call from the hag.” Katsuki spoke, his voice heavy. “My parents are still Izuku’s Power of Attorney. They are just getting there, so he won’t be alone.”

Hitoshi grunted in acknowledgement. “And Izuku?” The alpha asked, his chest tightening as he prayed the omega was okay.

“Getting a CAT scan… he was hit by a car.” The blonde said, his voice tight as it came through the phone.

“Fuck!” Histoshi cursed under his breath as he ran down the nearest fire escape. “I'm a couple blocks away.” He breathed out a huff as he jumped to the alley floor. “Be there in three minutes.”

“Good.” Katsuki answered. “I’ve just made it.” Was the last thing Hitoshi heard before the line disconnected.

Katsuki ran through the lobby doors like he had done it a million times. His heart raced as he flashed his badge to the nurse and was immediately granted access to the rest of the building. He ignored the concerned yells from a nearby nurse as he made his way to the Care Unit his parents had said Izuku would be in.

He passed another nursing desk, this one with a middle aged woman crying as she spoke to a nurse.

“Please, can you just tell me if she is safe?” The woman begged, her hands gripping the counter. “I haven't seen her in months. She doesn’t answer her phone, and even her fiance hasn’t seen her in weeks. Please just tell me my daughter is safe.”

The nurse sighed. “All I can say is that she has been scheduled to work with outpatients now. She hasn’t worked in this unit for a while. Last I heard, she transferred to Psych before transferring again to be a home health nurse.”

“Okay. Thank you.” The woman said, her sobs at bay as she tried to compose herself. “Can I leave my phone number-“

Katuski kept running, his shoes squeaking on the tile as he turned down a hallway. His breath halted in his chest when a familiar brunette stood halfway down the corridor.

“Katsuki.” Masaru gasped. The omega ran to him, his hands shaking as he grasped his child into a hug.

”How is he?” Katuski asked as he let his father guide him to one of the patient rooms. “They had to give him a sedative. Oh, Katsuki, Izuku apparently woke up in so much pain while in the ambulance.” The omega said, his voice wobbly with tears. “We haven’t gotten the results from the scan yet, but they already wrapped a broken wrist  and road burns.”

“How did this happen?” Katsuki growled as he peered through the small window on the closed door. His hackles raised as he tried to assess the situation. He could see Izuku inside, the omega out cold as he rested on the bed with bandages wrapped around his face and neck. Mitsuki’s voice could be heard through the door, her tone heavy but too soft for the alpha to understand.

Masaru shook his head. “He jumped out of the car while Inko tried to help him with his seatbelt. He ran into traffic and-” The omega cut himself off with a hiccup.

”Right.” Katsuki grunted, his body already pressing against the door as it opened.

The room was stifling as he entered. His mother was seated in one of the chairs by Izuku’s bed, her back straight as she grasped Izuku’s slack hand. Her red eyes flickered to her son for a moment before looking back at the couple seated on the other side of the bed from her.

“The order-“

”No longer matters.” Mitsuki stated, her voice stern as she glared at Inko and Hasashi. “I and my mate are still Izuku’s Power of Attorney. With him in this kind of state we are legally allowed to be here. So unless you have something else notarized to dispute what the hospital has on file, nothing will change that.”

Inko huffed in annoyance before setting her glare toward the blonde that just entered. “I won’t allow him or that other alpha in this room.” She snapped, hand gripping the bed sheets in front of her. “ I am his mother!”

Mitsuki shook her head. “You don’t get to demand anything here. As I said, Masaru and I have full say as to what goes on in this room and what happens to Izuku.”

“You bitch-“

”Enough, Inko.” Hasashi growled, his glare turning toward his mate. “You are being too emotional right now.”

Inko’s eyes widened slightly. “Has-“

”Enough.”

”NO!” Inko yelled, her chair screeching behind her as she stood up suddenly. She pointed a finger at Mitsuki first, then her alpha. “This is unacceptable. My baby is hurt.”

”Because you made us stop the car.” Hisashi growled. He too stood, his dominating figure towering over the omega. “Izuku wouldn’t have gotten hurt if we would have kept driving. Izuku jumped out of the car because of you!” He said, voice heavy with anger.

Inko blinked, tears sliding down her cheek as she shook her head. “No. I just wanted him to be buckled.” She muttered as she backed away from the alpha. “I only wanted him safe.” She glanced around the room, her eyes wild as she observed all the eyes on her. With a panicked sob she turned and fled the room.

Hasashi groaned deep in his throat, but followed the woman.

The room fell silent for a moment, only the steady beat of the heart monitor keeping time as the Bakugos watched the doorway for a moment.

“We might need a surveillance team tonight.” Katuski said, his eyes still focused on the doorway.

Mitsuki nodded, sighed heavily as she sagged in her seat. “You may be right. I'm looking at Zuku’s entire medical record that they have on file and there is a lot I’m concerned with.”

Katuski turned to his Sire, he raised a brow as he walked and sat where Izuku’s parents had been while his Dam settled beside his mate.

“Izuku’s file wasn't complete when he was transferred under our care. We had assumed that it was a clearance issue, but now…” The female alpha said, her tone flat.

Katsuki waited for his Sire to collect her thoughts, his gut turning at what the woman was implying.

“There was no CAT or MRI done during his last stay here. They only did blood work and basic vitals.” The alpha finally said.

Katsuki's answer was a growl.

Masaru spoke quickly, voice high and worried. “Izuku did arrive in a hectic state. So it shouldn't be so surprising that the hospital staff couldn’t get anything beyond vitals done.”

Mitsuki shook her head. “It is recorded that Izuku had to be sedated on arrival after the raid. They had the ability to do further tests and procedures, but they did… or at least the records were changed afterwards. He was taken to the Psych ward and left there with no additional exams beyond basic care.”

Masaru nodded, his shoulders shrinking in on themselves as he turned to his son. “After Izuku was moved into our house, I tried to get more medical information, but was blocked. I got in contact with a friend of mine, and there have been some weird things happening with records and patient files for months. A few of the hospital's systems have reported data breaches since the raid.”

Katuski frowned, his eyes flickering to Izuku. The omega looked tired even as he slept. The bandages covered half his face but they didn’t hide some of the road rash that blossomed down to his chin and over his swollen nose.

“It could be a coincidence.” Masaru said, though his voice sounded off with the explanation.

Mitsuki grasped her mate’s hand, squeezing it gently. “But there is too much happening for this not to be something. We notified a few people, they are looking into things as we speak. The Midoriyas however,” Mitsuki’s gaze flicked to the doorway.

Katuski nodded, his frown heavy as he kept his gaze locked on Izuku. He could feel his heart ache and his alpha whine at the unspoken implication.

For fifty three hours they sat in mostly silence at Izuku’s bedside. The atmosphere was heavy as the two alphas refused to leave the omega’s side for more than a couple minutes at a time. The first night had been filled with pacing and concerned grunts as the small group of Bakugou’s and Hitoshi tried to figure out what was happening around them.

They gathered as much information as they could and strategized while they tried to put the puzzle together. They contacted Aizawa, reached out to the Izuku’s therapist and home health nurse to see if they had any insight without divulging much information themselves, but most of it didn’t lead to anything substantial. It was stressful and draining.

Though all of that had to stop during the few hours that Inko came to visit- without her mate. If it was obvious that the four of them didn’t trust her, Inko didn’t seem to care. The woman stayed silent through most of her visits, ignoring Katuski and Hitoshi entirely while rarely sharing more than one worded statements with Masaru and Mitsuki. She mostly chatted with the nurses as they completed their rounds.

Hitoshi didn’t know how to handle the Omegan mother. During those few hours that she sat next to Izuku’s bed, Inko didn’t seem like she was physically present with them. She would zone out with her gaze set on the bedding or become overly consumed with the small tv hanging on the wall.

Yet, the moment a doctor entered Inko seemed completely beside herself during the daily update on Izuku’s status. Her eyes would fill with tears and her scent would turn worried and stressed, but only until the professional would leave. Then she would zone back out.

The whole thing was bizarre and set the alpha on edge. He didn’t want to deal with the woman when it was already unsettling enough that Izuu was still laying unconscious with zero signs of waking. The only thing keeping Hitoshi calm was the doctors' continued reassurances that they shouldn’t worry; stating that the trauma from being hit by a car usually resulted in patients falling into a coma as the body tried to heal.

That didn’t bring much comfort.

Nor did any of the times when the road rash bandages had to be changed. It didn’t seem like Izuku’s shredded skin was healing as it remained discolored and swollen day by day. The nurses cooed at the two alphas as antibiotic ointment was lathered onto the wounds. She insisted that the injury wasn’t too bad and that the healing process was just starting.

The first time a nurse talked like that had Katsuki snapping, demanding not to be talked to like a child. Mitsuki had put an end to that behavior very quickly, forcing her son to take a walk every time Izuku had a checkup.

It was during that time again when the same nurse from the day before walked in and began organizing a small table with different products to change Izuku’s bandages. Katsuki grumbled under his breath lightly as he got up and left the room, Mitsuki on his heels so she could supervise her unruly child while Masaru and Inko remained in their seats.

Hitoshi moved to stand at the far wall, giving the nurse as much room as she needed to do her job. Though his attention stayed on the green haired woman that leaned over the bed as the nurse peeled up the first bandage.

The two talked in hushed tones, Inko asking the same questions she did the previous day. Hitoshi rolled his eyes when the older woman sniffled lightly, a tissue already raised to her nose.

“He looks good today.” The nurse reassured as she wrapped a new bandage around Izuku’s forehead. “The wound is still raw, but I can see that the beginning stages of healing are set in.”

”Oh, thank god.” Inko nodded. “I’m just so worried.”

The nurse hummed, her mouth drawn tight. “I would be two if I was in your shoes. But don’t fret, he will be back to normal soon. His labs have come back and everything is good. I’m sure he will be waking up soon.”

Three pairs of eyes looked at the nurse.

”Really?” Masaru asked, his tone hopeful as he scooted to the lip of his seat.

The nurse paused for a moment but then smiled. “Yes.” She moved to clean up her small table, hands moving quickly as she disposed of the wrappers and dirtied swabs.

Hitoshi watched her for a moment, his emotions brimming with hope that her words were correct. The past few days had been absolute hell on him and his boyfriend. Both could barely keep their instincts in check when there was literally nothing they could do but sit and watch their omega.

The nurse pushed the table to the side, as she moved to examine the drip stand that held all IV bags. She mumbled something to herself before uncapping a small syringe and stuck it into the port. Hitoshi blinked, noticing the liquid was a dark grey as it mixed with the IV solution.

“What is that?” Masaru asked, his eyebrows furrowed as he too watched the nurse.

”An electrolyte and vitamin mixture.” The nurse said without looking at them. She recapped the needle before she spoke again. “We don’t want his natural reserves to get flushed, so we add a dose in the IV to replenish. It’s very simple and super easy.”

”Oh, I guess I didn’t notice that being done before.” Masaru said with a thoughtful tone.

The nurse hummed a laugh. “It’s been a crazy couple of days for everyone. I’m sure the doctor will be in soon to give today’s summary.”

“Thank you.” Inko whispered as she settled into her seat. “You have done so much for my baby, I appreciate it.”

The nurse nodded at the two omega’s as she said goodbye, her focus not landing on Hitoshi as she left. The alpha watched the nurse leave, but his eyes narrowed as the woman pulled out her phone with hands still gloved and smiled widely as she texted something while closing the door behind her.

Hitoshi looked over the room, his instincts on edge as he tried to figure out why he felt unsettled. His eyes landed on the tablet that laid on the small table, the nurse had forgotten it… and hadn’t entered anything into Izuku’s chart like she had the day before.

The alpha pushed off the wall, his alpha growing tense as he reached for the device but stopped when the nurse's voice spoke behind him.

“Good afternoon, everyone.” She hummed, moving closer to the bed with a soft smile. “I’m here to check Izuku’s bandages and take his vitals.”

Hitoshi blinked at the woman as she moved around him and to the small table. She tutted under her breath before moving to a small cabinet to gather the exact thing that she used not even five minutes before. The alpha watched, confused and then concerned as he noted that she no longer wore her purple scrubs but a pale blue pair.

Masaru stood, his brows furrowed. “Umm, what are you doing?” He asked, voice shy.

The nurse looked over her shoulder and gave the omega a smile. “Izuku’s bandages need to be changed and his vitals need to be checked again.”

All three pairs of eyes blinked and then looked at one another.

“You just did that.” Masaru spoke at the same time that Hitoshi moved towards the door and as Inko gasped loudly.

”Baby, can you hear me?”

The alpha glanced over his shoulder, noticing how Inko bent over the bed and petted her son’s forehead.

“Hi, baby. Can you hear me?”

Hitoshi stopped in his tracks, his eyes tracking his omega’s movement as Izuku slowly blinked his eyes open. He made one step toward the bed, his alpha prancing happily at the sight of Izuku finally waking, when a voice spoke over the speaker system.

‘Attention, code black. Attention, code black. Attention, code black.’

The nurse jerked her attention away from the bed and ran to the open door, “We should close this-“

A loud explosion rocked the entire floor. The lights flickered then dimmed as dust fell from the ceiling and the IV bags swung back and forth. The nurse cursed as she steadied herself against the wall, her eyes wide as she made eye contact with Hitoshi.

”That’s-“

‘Attention, code red. Attention, code red. Attention, code red.”

The nurse nodded to herself, hands shaking as she rushed out the door.

“What is happening?” Masaru asked just as another explosion echoed down the hallway. This one is softer and far less destructive.

Both the omega’s and alpha’s attention drew to the doorway. “Katsuki.” Hitoshi said before running to the door, “You two stay here.” He called over his shoulder.

“Ma?” Izuku rasped, his eyebrows pinched together in confusion.

Inko shushed him, her hand shaking as she looked at him. “Everything is okay baby. How are you doing?”

”Hurts.” Izuku croaked, hand reaching up to touch his head.

The room shook again, this time the force knocked Masaru onto his knees and Inko onto part of the bed. The machine next to Izuku screeched an alarm as the small TV crashed to the ground. The shaking didn’t stop for a few seconds, but once it did there was a lot of shouting in the hallway.

“We need to get out of here.” Masaru said, his voice panicked as he scampered to his feet. “I’m going to find a wheel chair. Inko, unhook Izuku.”

Inko nodded, her eyes wide as the brunette disappeared through the doorway. She looked at Izuku for a moment before ripping the blankets off of him and fumbled to get him to sit up.

”Ma?” The omega asked, groaning as he moved with his mothers harsh movements.

“Hey sweety, do you remember what happened? Before you got here?” Inko asked, voice shaking and high pitched. She grabbed Izuku’s arm and quickly ripped off the tape and the tub that was holding the IV.

“Shit.” Izuku hissed in pain. He jerked his arm away, eyes wide as a small bit of blood began to pool in the crease of his elbow. The sudden exchange seemed to bring awareness to the omega’s eyes as he glared at his mother. “What the hell!”

”We got to go-

“That seems like a good plan.” A deep voice said before chuckling.

Izuku froze as a large hand gasped his mother’s shoulders and squeezed. A pair of golden eyes met Izuku’s own and dread crashed through the omega’s entire being. “K-Kia.” He gasped, arms already outstretched for his mother.

One moment Izuku was staring past his mother- fear setting his skin stiff, omega whining desperately for them to get away- and the next his mother was replaced with a spray of blood.

Izuku blinked as red coated him completely. His sight blurred and distorted as he tried to get the blood out of his eyes, his breathing suddenly cut off as the burning taste of iron filled his mouth. All Izuku was able to do was flinch away from the alpha.

Overhaul smiled behind his mask as he put his glove back on, his eyes not once leaving Izuku’s. “Come, Omega. It’s time to go home.” He said, voice low but smooth.

Izuku remained frozen as the alpha turned and walked to a purple cloud that spiraled in a circle. His breaths became ragged as he looked down at his arms and then his chest. Everything to his skin, hospital gown and bedding were entirely covered in the sticky chunks of redness that had once been his mother.

Izuku screamed loud and angry as he forced himself out of the bed and onto his feet. It only took a moment for him to gain his balance before he was running full force after Overhaul. With every step he took Izuku could feel his anger become tangible, each slam of his heart had his omega ripped through him and demanded revenge, every breath had the pain quickly disappear as he became numb.

His last step before following Overhaul into the mist was Katuski’s voice; loud, desperate and scared. ”Izuku, no!”
